The outlook for 2019 is not looking good for Somalia according to The International Rescue Committee watchlist.
Somalia will remain unstable and the conflict will continue throughout 2019, although the great recovery of al-Shabab is unlikely, as long as AMISOM keeps its full strength.
Food security remains a persistent problem: in the second half of 2018, 1.5 million people had to face the crisis at food security level IPC 3 or worse (IPC Info). Residents of IDP camps are likely to face a deterioration in food security.
According to the UNHCR, 2.6 million Somalis have been forced to leave their homes either as internal refugees or to other countries in the Horn of Africa or Yemen.
Somalia is ranked 10th on IRC’s Watchlist. The report is available here.
